LeBron James to Publish ‘I PROMISE,’ His First Children’s Book, in August

LeBron James has used the phrase “I PROMISE” to name both his program for middle- and high-school students and his charter school for at-risk elementary school kids in Akron, Ohio. Come August, the Los Angeles Lakers All-Star will repurpose it as the title for his first children’s book.

The book, which is scheduled for an August 11 release from HarperCollins Publishers, will encourage kids from diverse backgrounds to work to become their best selves.

“I promise to dream big and love bigger,” one page reads. “To be a team player and a winner."

“I promise to use my voice and stand up for what’s right,” another reads. “And when things get tough, to keep up the fight."

I PROMISE will also feature illustrations from best-selling artist Nina Mata. LeBron, who considers himself an avid reader, is set to release a novel for middle-grade students during the summer of 2021.

“Books have the ability to teach, inspire, and bring people together,” he said in a statement. “That’s why these books, and the opportunity to get children and parents reading together, mean so much to me.

“Most importantly, we wanted to make sure these stories are ones that every single kid can see themselves in. ‘I PROMISE’ is powerful in that way, and I can’t wait for people to read it.”
