Pelicans’ Jahlil Okafor Finds Peace of Mind in the NBA
As a kid, Jahlil Okafor lost his mom the same day they were together hanging out at their house in Chicago. Amid that grief, basketball became his "sanctuary.” He worked his way into a high school state champion in 2014 and a national champion at Duke University in 2015. Along the way, he kept his struggle with mental health to himself, battling his inner demons during his early years in the NBA through DNPs and trade rumors.
But as his father Chuck says, "Tough times don't last; tough people do.” Jahlil has overcome his internal doubts to finally find peace in New Orleans. Jah reflected on his journey during a full day of events back home in Chicago.
