From Long Island and Orlando to Milwaukee, Detroit and Los Angeles, Tobias Harris has gone to great lengths to help people wherever he’s lived and played basketball. In that regard, Philadelphia is no exception, and the city’s Police Athletic League (PAL) has recognized the 76ers forward for as much.

On Monday, prior to the Sixers’ 129-112 win over the Atlanta Hawks at the Wells Fargo Center, the Philly PAL presented Tobias with a Community Service Award for his commitment to the City of Brotherly Love. Since joining the 76ers via trade from the Los Angeles Clippers in February 2019, the 27-year-old Islip, New York native has donated $1 million to nine different charities through a “community draft,” taken time to read books to students and speak at Black History Month events, and generally become a mainstay of the city’s African-American community.

“For me, it’s always things that are bigger than basketball,” Tobias told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “But also, basketball is what kind of unites them. So obviously, it’s a blessing to be honored for that. Hopefully, it inspires other and more people to just want to do more for the youth and more for people that need it.”
