NBA Name-Drop: 21 Savage Salutes Hoops Legends on ‘Bank Account’

It’s been a difficult week for 21 Savage. The Atlanta-based rapper was arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying his non-immigrant visa from the United Kingdom, which expired in 2006.

21, whose given name is She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, already has plenty of help on the way from the hip-hop community, with Jay-Z stepping in to hire an attorney for him. With the 26-year-old in ICE custody, we dug back into his catalogue for a bit of a throwback NBA Name-Drop.

On “Bank Account,” from his 2017 Issa Album, 21 Savage shouts out a pair of Hall of Famers in Shaquille O’Neal and Reggie Miller, while rapping about building up his riches:

Bill dog, want a bil', dog, chasing mil's, dawg (yeah)

Dunk right in your bitch like O'Neal, dawg (wet)

Plus I shoot like, shoot like Reggie Mill', dawg (21)

Chopper sting you like a eel, dawg (fast)

It’s possible the “O’Neal” that 21 refers to here is Jermaine O’Neal, who played on the Indiana Pacers with Reggie. Though Jermaine was no Shaq, he did well to earn six All-Star selections and nearly $170 million over his 18-year NBA career.

Either way, you can bet 21 Savage will be looking to dunk on the detaining authorities however and whenever he has the legal standing to do so.
