NBA Name-Drop: Joel Embiid Makes Cameo in ‘Earth,’ Lil Dicky’s Ode to the Environment

It’s one thing for an NBA All-Star to earn a shout-out on an artist’s track, and another entirely for the basketball standout to make his own appearance therein. The latter was the case for Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid, who popped up on Lil Dicky’s track “Earth.”

The rapper, comedian and suburban Philly native enlisted a slew of celebrities and performers—from Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, to Kevin Hart, Snoop Dogg and Miley Cyrus—to help raise awareness about climate change and environmental health in conjunction with Earth Day. Joel snuck into the song as “Africa” with one simple, auto-tuned line:

We love you, Africa!

As a native of Cameroon and a star for Lil Dicky’s hometown Sixers, Joel made sense to represent the continent in this capacity. Moreover, with “Earth” set to debut at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, the 25-year-old center can now add a musical milestone—and support for a charitable cause, with a portion of the profits going to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s fight against climate change—to his growing resume. He has All-Star, All-NBA and All-Defensive nods, and endorsement deals with Under Armour, Hulu, Mountain Dew and HyperX, among others.
