NBA Social Recap, Playoffs Week 3: Offseason Fun and Parental Love
The second round of the NBA playoffs is in full swing, but that doesn’t mean basketball is all that’s on the minds of the world’s best hoopers. For those who are no longer in the postseason mix (or weren’t in the first place), there’s plenty else to see and do, whether traveling the globe or kicking back at home. Even for those who are busy with meaningful basketball to play, there’s time, however fleeting, to share thoughtful messages with loved ones on social media. Here’s the best that basketball had to offer on Instagram and Twitter during Week 3 of the playoffs, starting with No. 5.
5) Kevin Love Goes Big in Thailand
Kevin Love has wasted little time getting in his vacation kicks for the offseason. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ All-Star recently spent time in Thailand, and splashed photos from his trip all over Instagram. The most striking images, of course, came from his visit to the 148-foot Big Buddha in Phuket, which dwarfed even the 6’10" big man.
4) LeBron James Sees Himself in the Playoffs...Sort of
LeBron James is out of the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, but his kicks are picking up the slack. The Los Angeles Lakers' superstar couldn’t help but notice the “Martin” edition of Nike’s LeBron 16 on the feet of players on both sides during Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers. Without any postseason preparation of his own to handle, the 34-year-old took the opportunity to reflect on what it means to have such sway around the NBA, even when he’s not playing.
3) Blake Griffin’s GoT Game
Like so many Game of Thrones fans, Blake Griffin squinted his way through “The Long Night,” the third episode in the final season of HBO’s hit series, on Sunday night. With his quick wit (and deft touch for dodging outright spoilers), the Detroit Pistons’ All-Star forward found a way to inject Michael Jordan into the Seven Kingdoms. Beyond the comedy, the tweet was perfectly on-brand, since Blake has long been a Jordan Brand athlete.
2) Jayson Tatum Wishes His Mom a Happy Birthday
The Boston Celtics made quick work of the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. That sweep gave the Cs a week to prepare for their second-round matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks, and afforded Jayson Tatum ample opportunity to wish his mother, Brandy Cole, a happy birthday. Better yet, he did so with a cameo from his son (and her grandson) Jayson Jr., otherwise known as “Deuce.”
1) Pascal Siakam Honors Late Father, Previews Personal Merchandise
Pascal Siakam does everything for the memory of his father, Tchamo, who died in a car crash in October 2014. That includes starring for the Toronto Raptors and spreading a message of love and hard work through his upcoming clothing line entitled Humble Hustle and Heart. The better Pascal plays, the further the Raptors will go in the playoffs and the more chances he’ll have to honor his dad on and off the court.
